Sony Creative Softwareから"Sale of Customer Database and Other Assets"というタイトルのメールが届きました。
「顧客データベースとその他資産の売却」という穏やかでないタイトルであるから、フィッシングメールかとも思いましたが、そうではありませんでした。
ということで、内容を読んでみます。
メール本文
冒頭にはこんなことが書いてあります。
Sony Creative Software Inc. ("SCS") is pleased to announce that MAGIX Software GmbH (“MAGIX”) has purchased substantially all of the software products and other assets of SCS (“SCS Assets”). As part of this sale, and in accordance with our Privacy Policy, MAGIX will acquire our customer database, which includes your personally identifiable information previously collected through our website or otherwise (“Customer Database”). This information was included in the sale to assist MAGIX in providing you with products and services, including those that are no longer offered by SCS.
MAGIX has agreed that it will treat the personal information in the Customer Database in compliance with the law and in accordance with the terms of the existing SCS Privacy Policy.
ということで、ざっくり以下のような事項がポイントと思われる。
- Sony Creative Softwareはほとんどの製品をドイツ企業のMAGIX Softwareに売却した。
- 売却されるものはソフトウェア製品と、その他の資産。
- この売却の一部として、プライバシーポリシーに従って、MAGIXはSony Creative Softwareの顧客データベースを手に入れる。
- 顧客データベースには、Webサイトやその他の手段で収集した個人情報が含まれる。
- この情報はMAGIXがあなたに製品やサービス(それらはもはやSony Creative Softwareからは提供されない)を提供するのを支援するために売却対象に含まれている。
- MAGIXは法律と既存のSony Creative Softwareのプライバシーポリシーに従って、顧客データベースの情報を取り扱うことに同意している。

If you object to SCS providing your personal information to MAGIX as described in this notice, you may opt out of the data transfer here. To be effective, any such opt-out request must be received by June 23, 2016. NOTE: If you opt-out, your personal information will not be transferred to MAGIX as part of the sale, and MAGIX will be unable to provide certain customer service functions, such as looking up your past orders or serial numbers should you misplace them.
- Sony Creative SoftwareからMAGIXへ個人情報を提供することに反対する場合は、オプトアウトすることができる。
- オプトアウトするためには2016/6/23までにリクエストする必要がある。
- オプトアウトすれば、MAGIXに個人情報は伝わらないが、MAGIXはある種*1の顧客サービスを提供できなくなる。
だそうです。
わずか2週間しかオプトアウトの猶予を与えないなんて、オプトアウトさせる気が無いんじゃないかと邪推したくもなりますが、リクエストフォームとして、以下のURLにリンクが張られています。

Sony Creative Softwareの勝手な都合で個人情報売られてたまるかという思いもあるので、オプトアウトしたいところですが、製品サポートが受けられなくなる覚悟が必要なようです。
ということで、個人的にはオプトアウトしたいけど、弊害を考えるとできなさそうです。
「Sony製品だから安心して使っているんだ、良く知らない会社に個人情報を渡される位なら、これを機にアンインストールする」というような強硬な対応が可能ならオプトアウトも有効かと思います。

そもそも、Sound ForgeやACIDやVegasはSONYが開発した製品ではなく、Sonic Foundryが開発したソフトウェアをSony Creative Softwareが買い取った製品群です。
Sonic Foundry時代からHook Upが代理店をやっており、近年になってSOURCENEXT扱いになっていますが、MAGIXに売却後は再びHookUpに戻ってくる流れになるのでしょうか？
SOURCENEXT扱いになってから、劇的に価格破壊が進んだことを考えると、また製品価格が大きく変わりそうな気が。。。
